The football rivalry between Lapeer and Davison is about to get even more heated as the two will come together for a league-title showdown on Friday. This will be the seventh time the teams have faced each other since Lapeer joined the Saginaw Valley League in 2014.

Firebirds fall to 0-9
FLINT– Playing back-to-back games at the Dort Federal Event Center this past weekend didn’t help the Flint Firebirds earn their first win of the season. Flint’most recent contest resulted in a 6-3 loss to the Kitchener Rangers.

Both of the Cardinals’ teams finished in sixth place at Friday’s Oxford Invitational as the boys had 196 and the girls 151. Savannah Sipley paced the girls in ninth in 19:20.79, Makenzie Brownrigg was 24th in 20:22.79 and Anna Gill was 31st in 20:32.04.

FLINT– For several years, the Coca-Cola Classic, which was hosted by the Flint Community Schools, was one of the best in the state, and the area’s only holiday basketball showcase.
Mabry qualifies for states as golf team finishes season
HARTLAND– The Davison girls’ golf team ended its season last Wednesday at its regional meet at Hartland Glen Golf Club. The Lady Cardinals just missed the cut, finishing fourth with a team-total 348, but Isabel Mabry turned in an 83 on the day to qualify for the state finals as an individual.
Soccer team ousted in districts
FLUSHING– The Davison boys’ soccer team saw its season come to an end in Monday’s Div. 1 soccer district, hosted by Flushing. Davison lost to Carman-Ainsworth, 2-1.
Cards fourth in tennis regional, miss out on finals
SAGINAW– The Davison boys’ tennis team failed to qualify for the state finals, placing fourth as a team with five points at the Div. 1 regional at Saginaw Heritage last Thursday. Traverse City West won the region with 18, Grand Blanc was the runner-up with 17 and Holt was third with 11.

Howard “Tony” Finck died Oct. 8 at his home at the age of 85. Born in Columbiaville, he and his father opened Finck’s Meat Market in 1943 at 206 N. Main St. His son, Tom, bought out his grandfather and worked with his dad until 1982, when Tony retired. Tom sold the store in 1991.

Fundraiser dinner to be held for Motherly Intercession
